The Anyang Dongan Police Station in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 29th that it was investigating the case of a 57-year-old principal A (57) on suspicion of secretly installing a small camera in a school female teacher’s bathroom (violation of the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes).

Principal A is recently accused of installing a small 2 to 4 cm camera inside the bathroom of a female teacher at an elementary school where he works in Anyang.

At that time, a school employee who was trying to use the toilet found a small camera installed near the toilet and reported it to the school.

The police, who were called to the scene after receiving the report, were suspicious of the fact that Principal A was passive in reporting even though he was a school administrator, so they confirmed the fact of the crime during the interview.

There was no video of the body taken by the camera found at the time, but a video material suspected of being illegally filmed was found on the cell phone of Principal A.

During the police investigation, Principal A reportedly denied the allegations, saying, “It is true that the camera was installed, but there was no sexual intention.”

A police official said, “We are conducting digital forensics on the discovered cameras and grasping the exact circumstances of the incident, including the time of installation.”

The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education immediately dismissed Principal A and began an audit.

In the future, reflecting the results of the police investigation, we plan to proceed with disciplinary procedures against Principal A.

In addition, Anyang Office of Education has set up an emergency response team to provide psychological counseling and support for the restoration of community trust to school members where the incident occurred.

Superintendent Lee Jae-jeong, who convened an emergency response meeting this morning, said, “The principal in charge of school education expresses serious concern over the occurrence of an unfortunate incident, and feels responsible for what should not happen in the school and the education world.”

“We will actively support the necessary measures so that there are no difficulties for parents and teachers, including students, and we will take the strongest and strictest measures to prevent this from happening again,” he said.
