According to various media reports, the HKEAA issued a circular to schools stating that it will accept qualified schools in the Mainland to take and hold the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (DSE) from 2024, changing the previous arrangement that only “self-study students” can be used to take the test in Hong Kong. Mainland students do not need to come to Hong Kong to take the exam, but they must go to Hong Kong for the English oral exam and take the exam with local students.
The HKEAA mentioned in the circular that mainland schools that apply to participate in and conduct DSE must be recognized by the relevant mainland authorities as “schools for children of Hong Kong people” that are qualified and approved to offer HKDSE courses. The HKEAA also confirmed that it has received applications from mainland schools to participate in the 2024 DSE for the first time.
In addition to the English oral exam, candidates for the physical education and music practice exams need to go to Hong Kong to sit in the same field as local students. For school-based assessment subjects, the HKEAA will provide Mainland schools with appropriate teacher training.
