Elon Musk: The Boring Company will build its own Hyperloop ‘in the next few years’

POOL New / Reuters

As early as 2013, Elon Musk proposed the concept of Hyperloop, but perhaps because of the busyness of things, the Tesla and SpaceX boss later left the opportunity to advance such products to other companies. Fast forward to 2017, and Musk revisited plans to develop a Hyperloop system, saying that it would first open a line between New York and Washington. Now, five years later, things are finally moving forward, and Musk tweeted earlier that The Boring Company will be in “in the next few years“Make a set of available Hyperloop solutions.

If you’re not familiar with Hyperloop, here’s a brief review of Musk’s vision for it at the time. He thinks the Hyperloop should consist of low-pressure overhead pipes and capsule-shaped aluminum trains, ideally at speeds closer to 1,300 kilometers per hour. Musk believes that Hyperloop will be the fastest mode of transportation for cities less than 3,200 kilometers apart (he also jokes about Starship rockets for long distances…). He also pointed out that “underground passages will not be affected by surface weather”, so they will be more suitable for some areas with frequent meteorological disasters.

As for The Boring Company, a company that specializes in tunnel mining is indeed easily associated with products like the Hyperloop. Although it has not really made a line that can be officially operated so far, if the Hyperloop business is added next, it should have the opportunity to further attract more investment.
