The Central Quarantine Countermeasures Headquarters held an emergency meeting of relevant ministries to evaluate the situation of overseas imports this evening regarding the Corona 19 mutant virus ‘Omicron’, and decided to take countermeasures for the Omicron outbreak and neighboring countries.

Accordingly, the government has decided to restrict the issuance of visas to eight countries, including South Africa, Botswana, and Zimbabwe, from 00:00 tomorrow, and to block entry of all foreigners entering Korea from these countries.

In the case of Koreans, regardless of whether they have been vaccinated or not, they will be quarantined for ten days in a temporary living facility.

The COVID-19 mutant virus ‘Omicron’ has been spreading since it was first identified on the 9th in South Africa, and the World Health Organization has designated Omicron as a ‘mutant of concern’.

There have been no confirmed cases of Omicron mutation in Korea.
