“Enhance publicity, eliminate discrimination!” … Another guerrilla rally amid the spread of Omicron

While the spread of Omicron mutations continued, 15,000 people gathered and held a large-scale rally demanding the abolition of social inequality.

Again, there were repeated guerrilla rallies that avoided the police and changed places by surprise, but the police again announced a strict punishment policy.

About 15,000 people, including members of the KCTU, Jeonnong, and the Korea Progressive Solidarity, gathered in Yeouido, Seoul.

“The lives of our people have become more miserable while the haves are having a party. 2.63 million jobs have been lost in the Corona crisis.”

The workers gathered here in Yeouido Park and held a large-scale rally for an hour and a half.

Although the assembly was banned according to the quarantine guidelines, the organizers insisted, “It is unfair to block outdoor gatherings as there is no limit to the number of people entering department stores.”

Instead, it was announced to follow the quarantine guidelines, but the distance was hardly observed as the protesters sat close together.

Police issued warnings to stop and disperse the illegal assembly, but did not clash with the protesters.

Originally, the rally was scheduled to be held in downtown Seoul, including Gwanghwamun and City Hall, but when the police installed a temporary checkpoint to block the city center, the organizers changed the meeting place by surprise.

Following the large-scale rallies in October and November after the Workers’ Congress of the KCTU in July last year, the guerrilla rallies were repeated again.

Police said that they will take strict legal action against not only the organizers of the assembly, but also the duplicate participants who have appeared in illegal assemblies several times.
