Pop star Madonna has canceled the first of several planned concerts on her “Madame X” tour in London at short notice. Holders of tickets for the 61-year-old’s performance on Monday were informed by the organizer on Saturday.
“Under medical supervision, I was advised to rest for a few days,” Madonna was quoted in the message. “As you all know, I have injuries that have plagued me since the start of this tour, but I always have to listen to my body and put my health first.”
A refund of the purchase price has already been arranged, it said. Madonna wanted to give a total of 15 concerts at the London Palladium, an over 100-year-old theater with around 2300 seats. Fans had to pay several hundred pounds for the best cards.
Madonna had previously canceled concerts on her “Madame X” tour due to knee problems. In the US, she had to skip a few appearances because of “overwhelming pain,” as the singer wrote on Instagram. A concert in Lisbon was canceled only 45 minutes before the scheduled start last week. “I’m sorry that I had to cancel today,” Madonna had written, “but I have to listen to my body and rest.”
The concert next Wednesday should take place as planned according to the current status. After the shows in the British capital, 14 further appearances of the “Queen of Pop” are planned in Paris.
