Epic Games announced on November 23 (local time) that it has acquired Hamonix, a well-established game development studio known for music games that use dedicated controllers that imitate musical instruments such as “Guitar Hero” and “Rock Band”. The purchase price has not been announced. Harmonix will work with Epic to provide Metaverse with a unique music gaming experience.

According to Harmonix, support for existing games will continue after the acquisition, and will be released after Season 25 of “Rock Band 4”, and an event for the popular DJ game “FUSER” will also be held. Epic and Harmonix will also create a musical journey and gameplay for “Fortnite,” but details haven’t been revealed so far.

Fortnite is also known for collaborating with artists to hold in-game virtual concerts. Recently, Ariana Grande has participated, and J. Balvin and Travis Scott have also held events. Especially at the Travis Scott event, the number of players connected to the game exceeded 12.3 million, which attracted attention.

Speaking of Epic, it operates its own store and does not provide games on Steam etc., but Harmonix’s existing games such as FUSER will continue to be sold on Steam.
