EPPO reveals the timetable for the National Energy Plan, focusing on 5 main plans to be completed in October.

22 September 2022 – Mr. Weerapat Kiatfuengfoo Deputy Director of the Energy Policy and Planning Office (EPPO) disclosed in a special discussion. “Allocation of the new national energy policy plan and the path towards carbon neutrality in Thailand in all 4 areas: electricity, natural gas, oil, renewable energy and energy conservation” held at the event “SETA 2022 , Solar + Storage Asia 2022, Enlit Asia 2022” that the Ministry of Energy is currently in the process of discussing the preparation of the National Energy Plan. Including all 5 children’s plans which include

1. National Power Development Plan (NDP) 2022

2. Gas Plan

3. Renewable and Alternative Energy Development Plan (AEDP)

4. Energy Efficiency Plan (EEP)

5. Oil Scheme

Initially, all 5 schemes are expected to be completed by October. 65 and there will be a public hearing for stakeholders. Before the plan is presented to the meeting of the Energy Policy Management Committee (MPG) and the National Energy Policy Council (NEPC) to approve the plan by the end of this year. and can be used from the beginning of 2023

Mr Weerapat said that the preparation of the plan was more complicated than the previous PDP. Because at the moment, new structures and forms of electric power must be established in the plan to be able to respond to changing trends. In this plan, the source of electricity will no longer be a large factory. But it will come from smaller, more distributed sources of power because in the future, people will be able to buy and sell electricity themselves. The requirements for preparing this energy plan must consider two important things:

1. Stability Nowadays, with the advent of electric vehicles (EV) and the rise of renewable energy, a clear plan is needed. Because people will have a change in the use of electricity. both charge electricity during the night or choose the electricity you can produce and 2. energy price By taking into account the amount of electricity coming into clean energy that could affect the retail price in the near future During the period of the 20-year energy plan, the ministry has tried to draw up a plan to reflect the actual price. and have the least impact Including considering carbon dioxide emissions to become Net Zero as well.

Mr. Watcharin Boonrit, Director of the Strategy and Planning Division, the Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency (DEDE) said that the energy conservation plan (EEP) in the national energy plan in the proportion of 30% as in the past may not be enough. This new scheme may have to be increased to 30-40%, including an increase in the proportion of renewable energy to 50% and an energy efficiency increase of 40%, including additional EV support plates.

“Regulation must be shared according to law. It will set the standard for energy management in buildings and factories. In the future, if anyone is going to build a new building, energy saving qualifications are needed, as well as having measures to support and promote the setting of standards and financial support through various funds based on the BCG model. ,” said Mr. Watcharin.
