At the time of the eruption this morning, the area around the summit of Mt. Aso was covered with clouds, so the situation of the eruption could not be confirmed by surveillance cameras or satellite images.
Weather News has installed small radars for meteorological observations nationwide. Of these, the radar installed in Aso City, Kumamoto Prefecture, began to show echoes around Mt. Aso at around 4:47, and the vertical cross-sectional image was 2000 m above the crater. You can see how the echo is rising to the extent.
Ash fall around Mt. Aso
At the time of the 2016 eruption, it was confirmed by the Weathernews radar that the eruption had risen to a height of about 11,000 m, and ash fall was confirmed not only in Kyushu but also in Shikoku by a user survey of Weathernews.
Raised to eruption alert level 2 yesterday
Volcanic tremors are tremors that occur in or around a volcanic body and have a longer duration than volcanic earthquakes. Some are thought to be caused by the movement and vibration of fluids such as underground magma, volcanic gas, and hot water, and some are thought to be caused by the continuous occurrence of minute earthquakes. Is often observed when the eruption occurs.
According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the amplitude of volcanic tremors has decreased since the eruption this morning. Please be aware of future changes in volcanic activity.
Japan Meteorological Agency eruption warning announced
In the surrounding waters, be wary of large volcanic bombs and base surges (horizontal eruptions) that scatter in a trajectory that accompanies an eruption. Also, be careful of floating substances (pumice stones, etc.) caused by the eruption.
It seems that the eruption is still continuing as of 23:30.
