Europa League title for Sevilla; They beat Roma 4-1 on penalties

BUDAPEST ∙ In any adversity, Sevilla has one title to cling to – the Europa League trophy! Currently in 11th place in La Liga, the Spanish club have tried three coaches this season alone but have not surrendered the cup in their favorite championship. In the UEFA Europa League final, Sevilla defeated Jose Mourinho’s Italian club AS Roma, who were unbeaten in European finals. Sevilla won 4-1 after a 1-1 draw at regular time and extra time that went to penalties. This is Sevilla’s 7th title in Europe’s second tier club championship. With the win, Sevilla qualified for next season’s Champions League.

Well done Bono

Sevilla saw victory through two stars who played brilliantly in the last World Cup in Qatar. If the feet of the Argentinian player, Gonzalo Montiel, won the shootout, the hands of the Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bono brought Sevilla to the final stage of victory.

Bono was waiting for Sevilla with great saves at the end of the shootout, saving Gianluca Mancini’s kick. As Sevilla’s next kick hit the post from Roger Ibáñez, the chance to score the winning kick was in front of Montiel, who led Argentina to victory in the penalty shootout against France in the World Cup final.

Montiel’s attempt was saved by Roma goalkeeper Rui Patricio, but the referee decided to retake it as he stepped off the line before taking the kick. This time, Montiel did not make a mistake. Sevilla won 4-1.

Earlier, Roma scored the first goal through Paulo Dybala in the 35th minute. But Roma couldn’t hold on to Sevilla’s constant pressure. In the 55th minute, Roma star Mancini made a mistake defending Sevilla captain Jesus Navas’ right-wing cross. The ball hits his feet and into his own net.
