In Singapore, where the vaccination rate for COVID-19 is 84%, the daily number of new cases exceeded 5,000, a record high.

According to Singapore’s daily Straits Times and Singapore’s Ministry of Health (MOH), on the 27th, the number of new confirmed cases of COVID-19 was 5,324, and the number of new deaths per day was 10. This is the first time that the number of new daily cases has exceeded 5,000, and it is a record high. The deaths were all between the ages of 54 and 64, and they died of complications related to COVID-19. All but one unvaccinated had underlying disease.

The Ministry of Health explained, “The number of confirmed cases has risen abnormally in a short period of time,” and plans to closely monitor the infection trend for several days.

Singapore, with a population of 5.45 million, has the world’s highest level of completion of the corona vaccine with an 84% completion rate. Since last July, Singapore has been strongly promoting ‘with Corona’, which coexists with COVID-19, focusing on the management of severe patients.

Recently, new confirmed cases are mainly occurring among the elderly who have not been vaccinated. Singapore’s Health Minister Ong Ye-kung said on the 23rd that “there are still many elderly people who are not vaccinated,” adding, “They account for only 1.5% of the total population, but they accounted for two-thirds of severe cases and deaths from COVID-19 in the past 28 days.” said.

The Straight Times analyzed that out of the 200 people who died from COVID-19 in Singapore this month, two-thirds were either partially vaccinated or not vaccinated.
