On the 23rd, a fire broke out in Yangmiok, a long-established house in Eulji-ro, Jung-gu, Seoul, known as the regular home of former President Kim Dae-jung, and the fire department began to extinguish the fire. The Yang Mi-ok building has a scale of 188.43 m² on the first floor and 122.31 m² on the second floor, and the fire was moved to the second-floor commercial building right next to it, and additional manpower was put in.

According to the fire department, reports of smoke and flames were received near the stairs on the second floor of Yangmiok Restaurant at Euljiro 3-ga, Jung-gu, Seoul around 7:50 pm that day.

The fire department issued the first stage of response around 8 pm and is working to extinguish the fire by mobilizing 36 firefighting equipment and 134 firefighters.

It is said that no one has been injured in the fire so far, but it has been confirmed that there are people who have not been able to evacuate, so a firefighting search is ongoing.

Meanwhile, Yang Mi-ok, a restaurant specializing in lamb and daechang, was born in Busan, where former President Kim Dae-jung visited 180 times during his lifetime, and his wife, Lee Hee-ho, also visited often. It started as a Seoul branch of ‘Omakjip’, but as the brand was sold, it was renamed ‘Yang Mi-ok’ 20 years ago. ‘Yangmiok’ (良味屋) means a restaurant that provides quality and taste.

At the entrance of the restaurant, there is a picture taken by the late President Kim Dae-jung with Mrs. Lee Hee-ho, the owner of the restaurant, and Mrs. and Mrs. Tak Seung-ho when he was in office. It is known that President Kim enjoyed Chinese cuisine and Mokpo and Sinan regional diets such as live sockeye fish, but President Kim and his wife frequently visited this long-established store and enjoyed the food. Mulnaengmyeon broth and noodles are also superior to many Hamheung naengmyeon restaurants, and Yanggomtang has a smaller bowl than Buminok, but has a good reputation among missians for its rich broth.

An official from the fire department said, “The nature of the exterior material of the building makes it difficult for water to penetrate, so it will take quite a while to extinguish the fire.”
