(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Lee Do-yeon = A pizza chain from New Zealand has introduced a unique marketing strategy called the post-customer payment system.

According to the Washington Post (WP) on the 1st (local time), New Zealand pizza chain ‘Hell Pizza’ has introduced an ‘AfterLife Pay’ method that allows customers to pay for pizza by will after their death.

The customer draws up a legally binding contract and promises to take care of the property, including the pizza bill, in his will.

“It’s a way to potentially get a free pizza,” said Ben Cumming, CEO of Hell Pizza.

This payment method was inspired by the ‘buy now, pay later’ method, where consumers pay for purchases months or years later.

However, the buy-first-pay-later approach can incur fees and penalties if it’s not interest-free, and can be dangerous for consumers who overspend.

Cumming said the buy-and-pay-later service was harmful because it could put customers in an increasingly debt-ridden situation.

Hell Pizza started this event on the 25th of last month, and so far, more than 10,000 people have applied.

The customer writes his name, the amount to be paid to Hell Pizza when he dies, and the name of the pizza he bought on an addendum to the will written by Hell Pizza’s attorney and staff. You must also sign the contract with two witnesses.

The pizza chain lives up to its name ‘Uffern’ (Hell) and will serve 666 people each in New Zealand and Australia.

Sydney resident Terina Josling, 32, said the incident reminded her of her father, who died suddenly in August last year. I want to see you smile at my previous pizza bill,” he said.

Hell Pizza first opened in Wellington, New Zealand in 1996 and currently operates 77 franchise stores in New Zealand.

Cumming said it was unclear how the company would enforce contracts related to pizza payments after the customer who wrote the contracts died, but “hopefully in the distant future.”
