A serious explosion occurred at a public bathhouse in Busan while firefighters were battling a fire. The incident left two individuals with severe injuries and 19 others with minor injuries.

At the scene, access to the public has been restricted for safety reasons. A noticeable large hole can be seen in the middle of the building, indicating the extent of the explosion.

The fire initially broke out around 1:40 PM today in Jwacheon-dong, Dong-gu, specifically in the basement of the public bath. Firefighters were prompt in extinguishing the flames, and it seemed that the situation was under control. However, unexpectedly, an explosion took place during the firefighting operation.

An eyewitness who observed the incident shared their account, stating, “There was an initial explosion followed by a popping sound after some time. Fortunately, the bathhouse was closed today. Nonetheless, two courageous firefighters who were battling the blaze sustained severe injuries, including second-degree burns to their faces. They remained conscious until they were transported to the hospital.”

In addition to the injured firefighters, 19 individuals, including police officers, civil servants, and residents who assisted in extinguishing and managing the fire, suffered minor burns and other injuries. Remarkably, among the minor casualties, the Head of Dong-gu, Busan, was also present at the scene.

The fire department suspects that the explosion originated from an underground fuel tank, but an official investigation is required to determine the exact cause.
