An inquest revealed that Max Mosley, who ruled F1 as FIA president, was killed by a pistol suicide that suffered from terminal cancer.

McCou Mosley, FIA President for 16 years from 1993 to 2009, was found dead at his home in London last May at the age of 81. He suffered from B-cell lymphoma for two years before his death and was declared “his life expectancy is very limited” in early 2021.

In an inquest at the Westminster Coroner’s Court on Tuesday, March 29, Max Mosley could only be mitigated by palliative care, but could not be cured of chronic intestines and bladder. He said he was experiencing pain.

Senior coroner Dr. Fiona Wilcox has determined that Max Mosley’s death was suicide. She also told the court that Max Mosley had informed his personal assistant that he was going to commit suicide, left a suicide note, and had a last meal with his wife Jean before shooting himself.

“It was clear that he had used a shotgun for himself as he endured the end-of-life illness,” the coroner said.

“It was clear that he had an illness that was incompatible with his life.”

“Even if Mr. Mosley didn’t take this action, I’m completely convinced that it was because of the painful, debilitating end-stage lymphoma,” she added.

A neighbor and Max Mosley’s housekeeper said to the bedroom door, “Don’t go inside. After finding the note, “Call the police,” I called 999.

His PA, Henry Alexander, said he begged Max Mosley not to end his life.

“He was desperately sitting in an armchair. He spoke to me and said,’I am truly grateful,'” said Henry Anderson.

“He said,’Sufficient. I’m going to commit suicide.’ I asked him to reconsider and said,’Please, there must be another way.'”

“He said,’I’m determined.’ When I begged him and asked,’Can I get 24 hours?’, He said,’Why?'”

Max Momozue revolutionized F1 by pushing for improved safety standards at the World Championships after Ayrton Senna died at the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix. He oversaw the introduction of HANS devices and more stringent crash tests.

Prior to the FIA presidency, he was a barrister and in 1969 founded March Engineering, a racing car constructor and F1 team, with Robin Herd, Alan Rees and Graham Coaker.

After leading the team to victory in three Grand Prix, Max Mosley resigned in 1977, forming F1CA and then FOCA with Bernie Ecclestone.

Max Mosley won the election with Jean-Marie Balestre in 1993 and became chairman of the FIA. He decided not to run for reelection in 2009 and was eventually replaced by former Ferrari F1 team Jean Todt, who remained in that position until December 2021.

Max Mosley left a great mark on the sports and broader automotive industry, which has been controversial in his personal life.

He was deeply involved in the decision to fine McLaren in the 2007 spy scandal, but his term ended when he sued News of the World, who wrote an article about his sex life, in court.

After bringing the case to the High Court, he won £ 60,000 in damages from Mr. Tabloid, who falsely reported that Max Mosley had participated in a Nazi-themed orgy.

Former F1 CEO Bernie Ecclestone said of his death, “It’s like losing a family. Max and I were like brothers. He’s not just for motorsport, but people are safe. We’ve done a lot of good things in the automotive industry to make sure we’re building a car, “he told BBC Sports.
