The Australian government recently passed a law relating to the payment of news content by Internet platforms. Following this, Facebook announced that it had signed agreements with three Australian media outlets.
According to the report, Facebook has agreements with private media, Schwartz Media and SoulStice Media. The full contract will be signed within the next 60 days. However, the report states that the ban on Facebook’s Australian media has not been fully lifted and that the law has been passed with changes suggested by Facebook.
Australia’s new legislation has been passed targeting Facebook and Google. Google initially criticized this. However, according to the report, Google has already entered into an agreement with the Australian media. This includes major media outlets such as Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp and Seven West Media.
