Falling from the terrace of the wedding house, 3 people in custody | Police

Thiruvananthapuram: Police have arrested three people in connection with the death of a young man who fell from the terrace of a wedding house in Vembayam. The bride’s brother Annal Vishnu Bhavanil Vishnu (30), friends Sarath Kumar (25) and Venpalavattam Kunnil Veetil Nitish (21) were arrested at Venpalavattam.

The deceased has been identified as Shibu, 32, of Keezhamalakkal, Koliakode. The death came after Vishnu and his friends left Shibu at home without seeking treatment to ensure his sister’s marriage. The accused, who were produced in court, were remanded. Police had collected footage of the young man falling from the terrace from the CCTV of a nearby house. Shibu is seen falling from the top while descending the steps of the terrace with his friends. Shibu was rushed to hospital but was discharged home by friends. The next day, Shibu bled to death.

Shibu was first rushed to the government hospital in Kanyakulangara. He was later taken to medical college. He was told to take a CT scan and X-ray, but his friends drove him home around 3am without stopping for a check-up. The medical college said it was buying the discharge to take Shibu to another hospital for admission. Defendants gave false names for this.

Shibu’s grandmother was the only one in the house. Relatives say the drip needle in his hand had not even been removed. Shibu died the next morning after bleeding from his mouth and nose. Relatives tried to contact friends but could not find anyone on the phone. The relatives then lodged a complaint with the police.

When questioned by police, the detainees initially testified that Shibu had come to the wedding. When the video of the wedding ceremony was checked, it was revealed that Shibu was their friend. According to police, six people were drunk on the terrace.
