Famous journalist Barry Hoffman dies NRI

Dallas ബാ Barry Hoffman, 79, a journalist, editor, communications executive, and board member of the Press Club of Dallas with more than 50 years of experience in print and broadcast media, died in Dallas on June 1. He moved to Dallas 10 years ago.

He was the partner and founding editor of the Health Day News Service, the world’s largest daily health-medical news service with over 2,000 business clients.

He has worked as a reporter and editor for several leading news organizations, including the New York Herald Tribune, WNEW Radio in New York City, and the United Press International Audio Network news service. He has held senior editorial and general management positions at Gannett and the Times Mirror, and is the former president of the New York State Associated Press Association.

He was also an instructor at Brookhaven College, teaching a continuing education course on the impact of the Internet and social media on newspapers and the role of journalism in our society.

Hoffmann’s news staff has won more than 300 national and local awards, including the National Headliner’s Award for Public Service, the Associated Press Managing Editor’s Award for in-depth reporting, and the Society’s Professional Journalists’ Award for Enterprise Reporting.

Hoffmann was a Vietnam veteran who served as a broadcast specialist and combat reporter at U.S. Army headquarters and the Armed Forces in 1968 and 1969.
