Jeju Road Accident Leaves One Dead and Seven Injured in a Five-Vehicle Collision

Jeju, South Korea – In a tragic incident this morning, a Mercedes-Benz car was involved in a series of collisions with five other vehicles, resulting in one fatality and seven injuries. The accident occurred at Goseong Intersection in Aewol-eup, Jeju-si, at around 5:28 am. Emergency services rushed to the scene to provide necessary assistance.
Accident Details:
According to the Jeju West Police Station, the initial impact occurred when the Mercedes-Benz, traveling in the second lane of a two-lane road near Goseong Intersection, collided with the right-side curb. The force of the collision caused the car to rotate 180 degrees and veer back into the first lane, eventually colliding with the median before coming to a stop.
The subsequent collisions involved a Carnival van, an Ioniq, an Avante, another Carnival, and a Kona, all unable to avoid the stationary Mercedes. The severity of the incidents led to significant damage to the Mercedes-Benz, rendering it unrecognizable.
Tragically, the driver of the Mercedes-Benz, a man in his 50s, lost his life in the accident. A female passenger in her 50s who was traveling with him sustained serious injuries and was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Additionally, six other individuals involved in the collisions were also injured and are currently receiving medical attention.
Investigation Findings:
Police investigations have revealed that neither of the two drivers who collided with the Mercedes-Benz were under the influence of alcohol. However, it was not possible to ascertain whether the driver of the Mercedes-Benz was intoxicated as blood samples were not collected at the time of the incident. Authorities will be examining the black box video footage from the involved vehicles to gather more information about the accident.
Witness statements provided to the police suggest that some drivers mistook the black color of the Mercedes-Benz car for a shadow from the guide. The police are relying on this information, along with other evidence, to piece together the sequence of events leading to the collision.

According to Jeju West Police Station on the 21st, between 5:00 and 5:10 am on this day, a Mercedes-Benz car traveling on the second lane of a two-lane road near Goseong Intersection in Aewol-eup, Jeju City collided with the curb on the right side of the road.
