The IBK Industrial Bank crisis that emerged as a hot potato in professional volleyball. The coach was sacked due to protests from players and coaches, and the coaches of other teams are strongly resisting the situation in which the coach took over as the manager.

IBK’s acting coach, Sani Kim, was unable to shake hands with coach Sang-hyun Cha in an away match against GS Caltex in the ‘Dodram 2021-2022 V League’ held at Hwaseong Gymnasium in Gyeonggi-do on the 27th. Coach Cha refused to shake hands before the match, which is usually meant to promise good luck between coaches.

Coach Cha and the other five club managers also expressed their intention of refusing to shake hands. If IBK does not rectify the situation, it indicates that it will not shake hands with acting Kim.

IBK’s setter Jo Song-hwa rejected former coach Seo Nam-won’s training method and left the team twice without permission. Reported to the club, but not to former manager Seo. At the time of the second departure, Kim Sani, then coach, also left. Coach Kim returned on the 19th, but Song-hwa Jo never returned.

The club fired former manager Seo on the 21st. Then, coach Kim was promoted to acting coach. Entrusting the management of the team to the coach who protested against the manager.

Acting Sani Kim claimed that before the home game against Heungkuk Life on the 23rd, “I heard insulting words and abusive language from former coach Seo.” Players such as Kim Su-ji, Kim Hee-jin, and Pyo Seung-ju also made remarks that seemed to acknowledge this. However, former director Seo directly refuted that there was no abusive language, and the situation has spread to a truth workshop.

In the IBK incident, the coaches of other teams decided to protest by refusing to shake hands. In some cases, it is interpreted that male leaders with vested interests are blocking the advancement of female leaders. A female volleyball player said, “Acting player Sani Kim has a great career and is highly likely to become a great leader as a leader, but she is in a difficult situation.”

However, if even Heungkuk Life Insurance Manager Park Mi-hee expressed his intention to participate in refusing to shake hands, the problem would be different. It has nothing to do with the conflict between male and female leaders. When conflicts arise between players, coaches, and managers, they are of the opinion that the club should have dealt with it in a common sense.

The club said it was embarrassed by the refusal to shake hands. A club official complained, “The coaches of other teams say they won’t shake hands, but we don’t know what to do with it.”

IBK has requested the Korea Volleyball Federation (KOVO) to hold a reward and punishment committee for Cho Songhwa. It is undecided whether Jo Song-hwa will attend the reward and punishment committee to be held at the KOVO office building in Sangam-dong, Seoul at 9 am on December 2nd. It remains to be seen what decision IBK will make on the unprecedented refusal to shake hands.
