Ferrari F1 Team Principal Mattia Binotto has high praise for Scuderia Ferrari development driver Robert Schwartzman. Claims he deserves a seat in F1.
23-year-old Robert Schwartzman will make his F1 Grand Prix weekend debut at the first US F1 Grand Prix free practice session in Austin next month, but is also due to take part in the Abu GP F1 final Dubai.
Robert Schwartzman’s record includes winning the 2019 F3 Championship and finishing second to Oscar Piastri in last year’s FIA-F2 Championship.
Born in Tel Aviv, Israel, Robert Schwartzman has gained experience in Formula 1 cars from 2020 onwards, including Young Driver testing in Abu Dhabi, Haas F1 team testing in 2021 and testing with older cars at Maranello pile up.
“Robert is a great driver,” said Mattia Binotto.
“Especially in Formula 1, I think he is very fast. Whenever he drives Formula 1, he was very fast in Formula 1 itself. There are probably drivers who are great in Formula 3 or Formula 2 but not good enough in Formula 1.”
“I think Robert is one of the polar opposites. He’s certainly been great in F3, F2, but he’s very strong in F1. So it’s a shame he doesn’t have a seat at the moment .”
Robert Schwartzman, who has spent the year on the sidelines due to a lack of suitable seats available at the end of last season, has kept himself busy in the Ferrari simulator at Maranello, while on race weekends I am with the team.
Mattia Binotto praised Robert Schwartzman for his work on the simulator and his contribution to Ferrari’s development program.
“He has done a lot of work in the simulator this season,” said Mattia Binotto.
“He has done a lot to help our team develop the current car.
“I think he has improved as a driver and developed his own skills, and today he is much more mature than he was a year ago, so I think he deserves a seat.”
“I know it is very difficult in the current situation, but I hope it will be in the future.”
