The White House has issued a strong warning to Russia over Russian President Putin’s comments about the possible use of nuclear weapons.
He also predicted that additional sanctions against Russia would be announced in the near future.

On the 21st, Russian President Putin mentioned the possibility of using nuclear weapons when he issued an order to prepare for war for the first time since the Second World War.

“I emphasize once again by far. And those who threaten us with nuclear weapons should know that the wind can turn in its own direction.”
The White House responded with a strong warning.
National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said that the United States and its allies would respond decisively if Russia used nuclear weapons.
He said he had private contacts with high-ranking Russian officials and made clear what a decisive response would mean, he said, saying the use of nuclear weapons would face devastating consequences for Russia.
He said he could not reveal how and when he had contacted high-level Russian officials, but said he made it clear that the use of nuclear weapons would be disastrous for them.
President Biden has already sent a strong warning message to Russia in his speech to the United Nations, saying that there is no winner in the nuclear war.

“Regardless of what happens in the world, the United States is ready to take decisive military control measures. There is no winner in a nuclear war and it should never happen.”
Sullivan has warned that additional sanctions will be announced in the coming days against organizations and businesses that provide war supplies to Russia or that support the Russian annexation vote.
