[Manila, 28th, Reuters]–On the 28th, the Philippine Army and the US Army started the largest joint military exercise “Barikatan” since 2015.

It has become clear that Filipino President Rodrigo Duterte has corrected his stance toward China and is strengthening relations with the US military.

8,900 people will participate in the exercises, including live ammunition exercises and amphibious assault vehicle training.

Defense Minister Lorenzana of the Philippines has stated that “we will send a message to the world that our cooperation is stronger than ever.”

In the waters of the Spratly Islands (Chinese name: Nansha) Islands in the South China Sea, where China and the Philippines claim sovereignty, Chinese fishing boats are gathering, and the Philippine government is increasing criticism of China.
