FIR Against Saji Cheriyan Over Remarks Against Constitution

A copy of the FIR registered against Saji Cherian in the Mallapally speech was received on the 24th. The FIR says that former Minister Saji Cherian has insulted the Constitution. The case is under Section 2 of the Prevention of Insult to National Honor Act. Saji Cheri has been charged with a crime punishable by up to three years in prison.

At the same time, Saji Cherian resigned from the post of minister yesterday after the incident of insulting the constitution became controversial. But MLA has not resigned. Legal experts are divided on whether he can continue in office. A section says that if the constitution is disrespected and not amended, the position of MLA is also threatened. There are also opinions that he should not resign as he is an MLA elected by the people instead of a Manti appointed by the Governor.

Meanwhile, CPI State Secretary Kanam Rajendran said that what Saji Cherian said about the Constitution was against CPM’s Kannur political resolution. The words he spoke are not according to the stance of Left Front or CPM. His words are against the political resolution adopted by the Kannur Party Congress. Kanam also clarified that Saji Cherian, who has resigned as minister, should not resign as MLA. Saji Cherian has not committed a breach of oath. But Kanam also asked him to ask him about the manner in which he stood firm on his point of view.
