First appearance in Senkaku territorial waters, Chinese coast guard ship with Japanese government cannon

Kyodo News reported on the 25th that the Japanese government confirmed that a Chinese Coast Guard vessel believed to be equipped with a large 76mm cannon appeared in the territorial waters of the Senkaku Islands (Chinese name Diaoyu).

The Japanese government announced that two Chinese Coast Guard ships appeared in Japanese territorial waters around the Senkaku Islands at 2:35 am on the same day, and at about 10 am, two Chinese ships, including one with a 76mm cannon, entered into the territorial waters again.

A Chinese maritime police vessel with a large cannon entered the territorial waters for the first time on the 15th, following the first entry into the waters surrounding the Japanese-designated Senkaku Islands on the 15th.

The Senkaku Islands are the subject of territorial disputes between Japan and China.

Japan, which is under effective control, has established an access zone outside the territorial waters of the Senkaku Islands for administrative activities such as customs clearance and immigration control.

However, China, which considers the Senkaku Islands as its own territory, does not recognize Japan’s contiguous waters and sends coast guard ships into waters that Japan considers territorial waters.

Previously, in a summit meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the 17th, Prime Minister Kishida expressed serious concern about China’s military activities in the East China Sea, including the Senkaku Islands.

China and Japan have decided to promote the establishment of an emergency line between authorities to prevent accidental conflicts in the Senkaku Islands, but tensions between the two countries over the Senkaku Islands continue.
