‘Flip 4 away goals’ Jeonnam, K League 2 team’s first FA Cup win, ACL appearance

Jeonnam Dragons became the first professional soccer team in the 2nd division, K League 2, to rise to the FA Cup throne and advance to the Asian Football Federation (AFC) Champions League (ACL).

Jeonnam defeated Daegu FC of K League 1 (Part 1) 4-3 in the away match of the second leg of the 2021 Hana Bank FA Cup final held at DGB Daegu Bank Park on the 11th.

Jeonnam, who lost 1-0 at home in the first match held in Gwangyang on the 24th of last month, tied with Daegu 4-4 on a total of 2 matches, but scored 4 goals only in away and took the lead in away goals.

It is the first time in 14 years following 1997, 2006 and 2007, and Jeonnam’s 4th FA Cup win.

Jeonnam succeeded in participating in the ACL by lifting the FA Cup for the first time as a second division team since the introduction of the promotion system in professional football in 2013.

Daegu, who won the FA Cup for the first time in 2018, stayed in the runners-up without being able to take advantage of the first leg.

Daegu finished third in the K-League 1 this season and has already secured a spot for next year’s ACL playoffs, so the challenge on the Asian stage will continue.

It was a spectacular match with 7 goals, which is the most goals in the history of the FA Cup final with both teams.

Daegu, who returned to the main room with one goal, took the initiative with a wave offensive from the beginning, but the flow changed in an instant when key central defender Hong Jeong-woon sent off in the 25th minute of the first half.

Hong Jeong-woon, who was fighting for a spot in a corner kick situation in Daegu, used his arm to strike Hwang Ki-wook in the face and knocked him down, and a red card came out immediately.

Jeonnam, who had a numerical advantage on their backs, opened the gates in the 39th minute of the first half and turned the game to the beginning.

Recently discharged from military service in Sangju, Jung Jae-hee, who started as a right wingback on the same day, broke through the flank and sent a cutback pass by central defender Chan-yong Park with his right foot.

Daegu counterattacked in two minutes.

Sejinya, who received a pass leading to Edgar and Lamas from the right side of the penalty arc, trapped it with her chest and head, and then hit her right footed shot into the post.

It was a shot that was difficult to block because it bounced slightly in front of goalkeeper Park Jun-hyeok in South Jeolla Province.

Se Jing-ya took the warning and raised the heat in DGB Daegu Bank Park with the ‘undressing’ ceremony, but just before the end of the first half, Jang Seong-jae’s left corner kick was pushed in by Go Tae-won, making Jeonnam 2-2 in total and leading the away score, leading to Jeonse The first half ended subtly.

Daegu, who added stability to midfield by adding Tsubasa and Yong-rae Tsubasa to the midfield by removing Jin-yong Lee and Jin-woo Cho at the start of the second half, took a lead again with Edgar’s header six minutes after the start of the second half, but Jeonnam responded with Oleg’s right footed mid-range shot in the 10th minute of the first half. A tense situation ensued.

The FA Cup trophy, which had no idea where it was headed, got closer to Daegu again in the 24th minute of the second half.

After Edgar headed Kim Jae-woo’s throw-in on the right flank, Jeonnam defender and Park Jun-hyeok blocked it, and Tsubasa put his foot in front of the goal to shake the net and Daegu took a 4-3 total.

In the 30th minute of the second half, MF Jung Ho-jin was sent off due to accumulated warnings and was put in a corner with 10 players like Daegu. .

At the end of extra time in the second half, Edgar, who was about to receive Sejinya’s pass in the penalty area, fell in a ball fight with Go Taewon, Jeonnam and expected a penalty kick, but the penalty was not declared after the referee’s on-field review.

Jeong Jae-hee, who scored the decisive goal for Jeonnam’s championship, was honored as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament.
