Floating Desalination Plant: Launch of a floating water treatment plant in Saudi Arabia

The launch of a state-of-the-art water treatment plant near the port of Al Shukaiq in Saudi Arabia.

Riyadh: The Floating Desalination Plant has been launched in Saudi Arabia. The seawater treatment plant was started on a small ship floating near the port of Al-Shuqaiq in the Red Sea. The plant has a treatment capacity of 50,000 cubic meters per day.

This floating plant is located in Shukhaikh on the west coast of Saudi Arabia. It is the first floating water treatment plant in Saudi Arabia. The project aims to supply purified water to all parts of the country. The plant was inaugurated by Jizan Governor Muhammad bin Nasser bin Abdul Aziz. Minister of Water and Agriculture Abdul Rahman Al Fadli and Governor of Saline Water Conversion Corporation Abdullah Al Abdul Kareem also attended the inauguration ceremony.

This is one of the projects being implemented in the country in collaboration with the private sector. The design and construction of the plant was carried out by the private sector for 25 years. Seawater is treated using reverse osmosis technology. Large solar panels are also installed for energy purposes.
