At least 40 people have been killed in floods in Bangladesh. The deadliest floods were between June 16 and 21. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday visited flood-hit areas. The situation in Sylhet and Sunanganj districts is critical, officials said.
It was the worst flooding in Sylhet in 122 years. The situation in the north-eastern districts also remains unchanged. The Surma, the main river in Sylhet, also overflows into the danger zone. All urban areas are under water.
The water of the overflowing Surma River has now infiltrated the cities through various sewers. Many houses were destroyed in the floods. Road traffic was disrupted at various places. About two lakh people are trapped in two districts.
