The news is that Pele, one of Brazil’s best soccer players, is in serious condition. It is known that his family stayed by his side during the Christmas holidays in the hospital where he was being treated for cancer.

On the 24th (local time), foreign media such as the Associated Press cited social media posts posted by Pele’s children (real name Edson Aranchis do Nacimento, 82) and said they were staying by Pele’s side during Christmas.

Pele, who discovered a tumor in his right colon in September last year, was diagnosed with colorectal cancer and continues to fight the disease. At that time, after having surgery to remove the tumor, he went back and forth to the hospital for chemotherapy.

Since then, since November of this year, complications such as heart failure, generalized edema, and delirium have occurred, and he has been hospitalized and recently received respiratory treatment for a bronchial infection that was presumed to be a confirmed COVID-19 infection. Some have raised the possibility of cancer metastasis, but neither Pele nor the hospital have revealed a clear treatment process.

Over the weekend, Brazilian media reported that Pele’s health condition had worsened and that he would spend the Christmas holidays in hospital. This is because the Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo, Brazil, where Pele was hospitalized, said in a statement at the time that he “needs intensive treatment due to kidney and heart failure.”

On the 24th, Pele’s son Eginho (real name Edson Cholby Nacimentu) revealed that he had visited his hospital room by posting a photo of him holding Pele’s hand on Instagram with the words “Father gave me strength”. Even on the 23rd, the day before, Ajinu denied the report of his critical illness and said he would not go to the hospital where his father was hospitalized during the Christmas holidays.

On the 23rd, Pele’s daughter, Kelly Nacimentu, said on Instagram the day before, “We continue to move forward with fight and faith here. He also posted a picture of himself holding Pele lying in a hospital bed with the caption , “One more night together.”

Pele led Brazil to World Cup victories in 1958, 1962, and 1970 and scored 77 goals, the most among Brazilian national team players. This is Neymar’s latest goal and game record at the World Cup in Qatar.
