Foreign Minister Young “need to contact the Taliban”… Qatar “Supports Reopening of Kabul Airport”

British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab has traveled to Qatar to discuss the rescue of British nationals and Afghans remaining in Afghanistan.

Raab said during a joint press conference after meeting with Qatar Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammad al-Sani, “we need to contact the Taliban on the Afghan situation,” Reuters reported.

But Raab said he has no plans to recognize the Taliban regime right away.

Qatari Foreign Minister Al-Sani said at a joint press conference that Qatar was in talks with the Taliban and was in talks with Turkey for technical assistance in resuming operations at Kabul’s airport.

“The Taliban is demonstrating its will to provide freedom of movement and safety for travelers to the Afghan people.”

Raab will then receive reports on negotiations with the Taliban from staff members of the British Embassy in Afghanistan, who have now moved to Doha, Qadar.

“The priority right now is to secure a safe route for British nationals and Afghans who have worked for the UK,” Raab told reporters.
