Former ‘boxing champion’ Jang Jung-gu sent to prosecutors for assaulting taxi driver

The case of former WBC light flyweight champion Jang Jung-gu, who was under police investigation for assaulting a taxi driver, has been handed over to the prosecution.

The Gangnam Police Station in Seoul announced today (25th) that Jang was charged with assaulting a driver under the Specific Crime Aggravation Act and forwarded the case to the prosecution.

Jang is accused of assaulting and arguing with a taxi driver after arriving at a destination near Seolleung Station in Gangnam-gu, Seoul in August. At the time, Jang was in a drunken state, and the taxi driver was found to have suffered injuries to his face.

Jang made his professional boxing debut in 1980, winning the WBC light flyweight title in 1983 and making his 15th defense until 1988.
