Former Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang Dismissed amidst Reports of Affair with Famous TV Host

Seoul, South Korea (Yonhap News) – Former Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang, who was recently dismissed from his position, is reportedly involved in a romantic relationship with a well-known Chinese broadcaster. Sources close to the broadcaster, Fu Xiaotian, claim that she gave birth to a child through a surrogate mother in the United States.

The Financial Times (FT) of Britain reported on September 26th that Fu Xiaotian, a TV host who previously hosted the ‘Conversations with World Leaders’ program on Hong Kong satellite broadcaster, Phoenix TV, was involved with Qin Gang. Six sources with knowledge of Fu Xiaotian and Chinese diplomatic authorities confirmed this information.

Fu Xiaotian, aged 40, conducted interviews with prominent figures such as former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe during her time on the program from 2014 to 2022. Notably, her last interview in March 2022 was with then-US Ambassador Qin Gang.

According to individuals close to Fu Xiaotian, she also had a child through a surrogate mother. This was revealed on Fu Xiaotian’s social media account on Weibo in March, where she stated that the child’s father is not American.

In addition, on March 12th, around the same time that Qin Gang was promoted to State Councilor in the National People’s Congress (NPC), Fu Xiaotian posted a photo of a baby raising its hand with the caption “Victory Ending.”

Prior to these revelations, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on September 19th, citing sources, that Qin Gang had been dismissed due to an extramarital affair during his tenure as Ambassador to the United States.

The involvement of Qin Gang, a high-ranking Chinese official, in a romantic relationship and the birth of a child through a surrogate mother in the United States has raised questions and garnered significant attention.
