Former Lokomotiv chairman criticizes Rangnick going to Manchester United: “He’s a merchant!”

[골닷컴] Reporter Man-seong Han = Former chairman Nikolai Naumov, who previously ran the prestigious Lokomotiv Moscow in Russia, criticized Ralph Rangnick for leaving for Manchester United. There have been complaints that Rangnick accepted Manchester United’s offer with little success for the Lokomotiv club.

Manchester United, which recently sacked manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, have agreed to appoint Rangnick, who has been dubbed the creator of German pressure football. In addition to his managerial role at United, Rangnick plans to play a decisive role in drawing the sketches needed for the club to run its squad in the long term. He first served as an interim manager until June next year, and then chose to go to England on condition that he would work as a ‘consultant’ for Manchester United until 2024.

Rangnick was offered by Manchester United while serving as technical director of Lokomotiv Moscow. During the negotiations, he accepted Manchester United’s offer on condition that he would assume a future consultant role as well as an interim manager. Lokomotiv is upset about the sudden departure of Director Rangnick.

In response, former chairman Naumov expressed dissatisfaction through Russian sports broadcast ‘Machithebe’, saying, “Rangnik is a merchant who came to Russia only to make money.” He said: “I’m not saying this because Rangnick is going to United. I can’t see him going to United as a runaway, betrayal or shame. It’s because Rangnick was a merchant in the first place. He has no interest in football. He wants to make money. People who are only interested in it,” he said.

“Rangnick was not very interested in Lokomotiv from the beginning,” Naumov said. “He came here to make money, not to improve the quality of the Lokomotiv club. Meanwhile, Manchester United offered more money, so I decided to go there. “He works for Manchester United and will leave the team again if someone in Africa offers him more money. Rangnick is a clean business man,” he added.

Meanwhile, United have considered Ernesto Valverde, Lucien Favre, Rudi Garcia and Paulo Fonseca to replace Solskjaer before appointing Rangnick as interim manager. Rangnick plans to sign a contract and lead the team as soon as United finalize an agreement with Lokomotiv. His debut as a Manchester United manager is expected to be a home match in the 14th round of the Premier League against Arsenal on the 3rd (Korean time) at the earliest.
