New York, October 3, 2023 – Former US President Donald Trump made a personal appearance in a civil case concerning fraudulent loans on the 2nd of October, where he vehemently claimed that the charges against him were part of a ‘witch hunt’ and fraudulent.
During the trial held at the Manhattan District Court in New York City, Former President Trump expressed his criticism towards not only the New York State prosecutor who had accused him, but also the presiding judge who had found him guilty.
In his statement to reporters, Former President Trump declared, “The biggest witch hunt continues.” He went on to condemn the case as “fake” and accused the New York State Attorney General, Letitia James, of being a racist who is conducting a witch hunt in order to run for Governor of New York.
Furthermore, Former President Trump expressed his strong dissatisfaction with Judge Arthur Engoron, asserting, “He is crazy and he is not in his right mind.”
The lawsuit against Former President Trump was initially filed by Attorney General James in September of the previous year. It alleged that Trump and his associates had artificially inflated the value of various assets, including Trump Tower and golf courses in New York, and illicitly profited around $1 billion as a result. This civil case was brought before the court.
Judge Engoron acknowledged some of the prosecution’s claims and decided to proceed with the case. Additionally, it was disclosed that certain real estate business licenses belonging to the Trump Group may be revoked and a manager could be appointed to oversee this matter.
Responding to these developments, Former President Trump defended himself, stating, “I have built a great company and own substantial real estate. Yet, a biased judge failed to properly consider all of this.”
During the trial, President Trump’s legal team argued, “The Trump Group is a highly successful brand and has genuinely increased its wealth through prudent decision-making. There was no wrongdoing and no victims,” they asserted.
On the other hand, Attorney General James reiterated her commitment to holding Former President Trump accountable for his illegal actions, speaking to reporters before the start of the trial. She emphasized, “Trump and his co-defendants have repeatedly engaged in fraudulent activities. Let me make this clear: no one, regardless of their power or wealth, can be above the law.”
Furthermore, the prosecution sought various penalties for Former President Trump, which include a minimum fine of $250 million, the sale of real estate assets, and a five-year ban on his ability to purchase commercial real estate.
In conclusion, the case against Former President Trump continues to unfold, with both sides fervently presenting their arguments in court.
