Four professional baseball broadcasters excommunicated the KBO and the club for damages

The four professional baseball relay sports companies (KBSN, MBC PLUS, SBS Medianet, and Sport TV) have requested compensation for damages from the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) and the club.

On the afternoon of the 25th, the 4 professional baseball broadcasting sports companies sent an official letter requesting compensation for damages to the KBO president, KBOP, a KBO marketing subsidiary, and 10 professional baseball teams. The official document, made up of 8 paragraphs, states that the KBO and each club should establish a responsible compensation plan for this season’s broadcast of professional baseball, which caused huge losses.

The four professional baseball relay sports companies have asked the KBO and the club to take responsibility for the operation of this season’s professional baseball lameness. They said, “According to the KBO’s COVID-19 manual, we established a plan to organize a professional baseball in 2021 and implemented advertising sales.” Contacts began to occur. According to the KBO Corona 19 Manual, the game had to be played without the parties involved, but on July 12, the KBO Board of Directors made a decision to end the first half early.

At that time, the KBO League caused controversy when some clubs were caught violating quarantine guidelines and having drinks with outsiders at the away dormitory. The schedule for the first half of the league ended sooner than expected as Doosan and NC had confirmed players with COVID-19. The KBO, which held an emergency board meeting, which is a meeting of the president’s group, said, ‘Doosan (2 confirmed players, 17 players subject to self-isolation, 14 coaching staff) and 64 % NC (3 confirmed players, 15 players subject to self-isolation, 10 coaching staff) concluded that it is difficult to conduct normal games.

The four professional baseball broadcasters emphasized that ‘the public opinion has deteriorated due to the early termination of the league and the deviation of the players’. He continued, ‘Due to the double header formation to match the league schedule, the viewership ratings (down 30% or more) and daytime matches on weekdays with low ad appeal increased. and compensation, etc., the damage is huge,’ he explained.

The specific amount of compensation was not included in the official document. However, the request was made to establish a compensation plan based on the stipulation that ‘the other party must be compensated for property and other damage caused to the other party due to negligence’ specified in the relay right contract.

The KBO and each club are aware of the relevant details. A high-ranking KBO official said, “It is true that (baseball fans) did not come to the baseball field a lot and lost interest due to the Corona 19 issue. I said that it was very difficult, but it is the first time (a broadcaster requesting compensation for damages). It is unprecedented.” “I think we need to review the related contents first,” he said.
