Abu Dhabi: The UAE government has offered a free bus ride on an empty plastic bottle. The government is taking effective measures to prevent plastic pollution. The new scheme was launched by the Integrated Transport Center (ITC) of the Department of Municipality and Transport in Abu Dhabi.
Plastic bottle deposit machines will be installed at bus stations in Abu Dhabi. Passengers can deposit bottles here. Points will be awarded for each bottle deposited by passengers. Each small bottle (600ml or less) gets one point. Bottles larger than 600 ml will receive two points.
Ten points like this will be considered as one dirham. This amount can be used to travel on government buses. The new project, aimed at protecting the environment, was launched in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Environment Agency and the Abu Dhabi Waste Management Center, Tadweer and Degrade. The points earned by depositing such empty bottles can be transferred to the personal bus card ‘Hafilot’, an ITC automated payment system. It can be used while traveling.
