Harlequins secured a 41-24 victory over Exeter in a Prem Rugby match on May 16, 2026, overturning a significant early deficit to dent Exeter’s playoff aspirations.

The hosts trailed by 17 points after approximately the first 30 minutes of the contest. However, Harlequins responded by scoring 34 unanswered points over the following 50 minutes to secure a bonus-point win.

While Harlequins’ own interests in the playoffs had ended several months prior due to their form, the victory improves their prospects for European rugby.

Exeter remains in fourth place in the standings, but the loss complicates their efforts to put themselves out of reach of the chasing pack.

The performance of Exeter’s heavy forwards appeared to suffer from fatigue during the match. This followed a vital victory for Exeter over the champions, Bath, on May 10, 2026, leaving the team with a six-day turnaround.

We’ve had a couple of short turnarounds recently. A short turnaround after playing Bath is probably the toughest thing to do, after you put in a big emotional, physical performance. I thought we paid the price today.

Rob Baxter, the Bath director of rugby

The match concluded with a final try for Harlequins scored by Boris Wenger. Wenger intercepted a forced pass as Exeter attempted to run the ball out from their 22-meter area in the final moments of the game.

The result leaves Exeter still in contention for the playoffs, though they leave the match with only a bonus point after their early lead evaporated.
