‘Freedom’ to wear a mask indoors from tomorrow… Public transport and hospital line must be used

Masks are removed in schools, daycare centers, senior centers, and large markets.

Quarantine authorities strongly recommend wearing it in the ‘3rd mill’ space … Concerns about some confusion in the early stages of implementation

The mask is finally released … Indoor masks will be lifted from next week

(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Cho Min-jeong = From the 30th, you do not need to wear a mask even inside, except for some facilities such as public transportation and hospitals.

According to the Central Disaster Countermeasures and Security Headquarters on the 29th, the mandatory mask wearing measure at the government level introduced in October 2020 as a quarantine measure against Corona 19 will be converted to a ‘recommendation’ from the 30th, on after 27 months.

Wearing a mask is voluntary, not compulsory, in schools, nursery schools, day care centres, seniors’ centres, gyms and swimming pools.

The winter resurgence of corona 19 has passed its peak and entered a declining trend, and cases of serious illness and deaths have also stabilized, turning the wearing of masks into an area of personal choice rather than ‘regulation’.

However, the obligation to wear masks indoors is maintained in medical institutions, pharmacies, facilities open to infection, and public transport.

Although the obligation to wear masks indoors and outdoors has been lifted in principle, some confusion is inevitable as the obligation only continues in certain places.

According to the quarantine authorities’ new ‘mask prevention guidelines’, you do not need to wear a mask in large markets, department stores, shopping malls, etc., but you must wear a mask in pharmacies in large markets.

On the other hand, hospitals and facilities that are open to infection are, in principle, places where masks must be worn, and masks must also be worn in gyms and locker rooms in the institution.

However, if you are in a private room in a hospital room or in a private area in a facility that is susceptible to resident-type infection, you can remove your mask as you are exempt from the fine.

There is no obligation to wear a mask in kindergartens, schools, or academies, but you must wear a mask in a school vehicle that corresponds to public transport.

In addition, it is necessary to check as local government can add the facilities that are subject to fines for not wearing masks indoors, so facilities that require wearing masks indoors may vary from region to region.

In order to prevent confusion, the quarantine authorities have posted mask wearing quarantine guidelines in facilities which are mandatory to wear masks, informing them that they are ‘mandatory facilities’.

In addition, even in places where the obligation to wear masks indoors has been lifted, ▲ if you have symptoms of COVID-19 or are in contact with someone who is suspected of having symptoms ▲ if you are in high risk group or if you are in contact with a high risk group ▲ if you have been in contact with a confirmed person in the last 2 weeks ▲ If you are in a 3D environment (close, dense, closed) where ventilation is difficult ▲ There wearing a mask ‘strongly Recommended’ when there are many acts of producing droplets such as shouting, chorus, and chatting in a crowded situation.

However, there is also a view that there will not be any immediate big changes, as was the case when the mandatory wearing of outdoor masks was lifted last year, with responses saying they would not remove their masks higher than responses saying they would take away with them in several surveys.

The disappearance of the obligation to wear masks indoors is the first time in 27 months since mandatory masks were introduced at government level in October 2020. If you include the period when people wore masks alone after the cases of Corona 19 in Korea, it is close to 3 years.

Following the lifting of social distancing measures in April last year and the lifting of the obligation to wear masks outdoors in May of the same year, most of the obligations to wear masks indoors also disappeared, bringing us one step closer to until “the daily restoration of life.”

Now, apart from some remaining indoor mask wearing obligations such as public transport, ‘7 day quarantine for confirmed cases’ is still the only corona 19 quarantine measure.

The government intends to review the adjustment of quarantine obligations at the time when the World Health Organization (WHO) raises the public health emergency COVID-19 and the level of the domestic emergency is adjusted.
