A lawless outdoor dance party without permission from the authorities in Italy lasted for a week, but the situation was managed by police intervention.

According to the public broadcaster RAI News on the 19th (local time), the so-called ‘Rave Party’ started on the plain near Lake Mezzano, about 110 km northwest of Rome, Italy from the 13th.

A rave party refers to a party where young people dance all night to techno music using facilities such as warehouses or tents abandoned on farms. It is a social problem because it is often accompanied by drugs such as ecstasy and excessive drinking.

This party was similar. Up to 10,000 young people from all over Europe in camper vans camped around the lake and immersed themselves in the party for several days.

In the process, a 24-year-old young man fell into a lake and drowned, and at least three people fell into a coma from binge drinking. Several cases of sexual assault have also been reported. There have even been cases of pregnant women giving birth, the daily La Repubblica reported.

The frantic party ended a week later due to late police intervention. As of the 19th, most of the party participants had left the scene, and there was only a huge amount of garbage lying around, local media reported.

The situation was settled, but the slow response of the police left room for controversy.

Senator Matteo Salvini, who leads the far-right League (Lega), criticized “It happened against the common sense of Italians, but the Ministry of the Interior (police jurisdiction) was a welfare illiterate.”

Another far-right party, the Italian Brothers (FdI) leader, Giorza Melonido, also criticized “where and what did the interior minister do to make the situation like this?”

The police explained that they chose to observe the situation for the moment because there is a high risk of accidents such as physical clashes with party participants in case of forced intervention.

The police, who started an investigation into the death, are now focusing on identifying the party participants. It is said that the personal information of about 2,000 people and the vehicle records of about 700 vehicles have been confirmed so far.
