(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Gyuri Park = From the 4th of next month, the quarantine period for all overseas travelers entering Korea will be reduced from the current 10 days to 7 days.

In addition, entry restrictions for short-term foreigners from 11 African countries, including South Africa, will be lifted.

The Central Quarantine Countermeasures Headquarters (Bangdaebon) said in a press release on the 28th, “In line with the domestic dominant species of Omicron mutation and the resulting change in the response system, the quarantine period for overseas travelers will be shortened from 10 days to 7 days from 00:00 on February 4th. “he said.

In order to minimize the influx of Omicron in Korea, the quarantine authorities required self-quarantine for 10 days for all inbound travelers regardless of their vaccination history.

However, as the Omicron response system was changed, such as shortening the quarantine period for those in close contact with confirmed COVID-19 patients from the 26th, the quarantine management measures for overseas entrants were also adjusted.

In addition, as Omicron has become a dominant species worldwide, it was determined that the quarantine measures for specific countries were not effective, and decided to lift the entry restrictions on 11 African countries including South Africa, Bang Daebon explained.

Accordingly, from the 4th of next month, short-term foreign nationals from South Africa, Namibia, Mozambique, Lesotho, Malawi, Botswana, Eswatini, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Ghana and Zambia will be allowed to enter the country.

The quarantine authorities announced that they would continue to take the same measures to strengthen quarantine management from overseas, such as restricting the reasons for issuing the quarantine exemption letter as much as possible.

The validity period of quarantine waiver issued after the last 24 days will be shortened to 14 days from the date of issuance. In addition, those arriving with a quarantine exemption issued after the 24th must undergo rapid antigen testing using a self-test kit on the 3rd and 5th days of entry, and it is recommended to work from home for 3 days after returning home.

Foreign travelers must have a PCR (gene amplification) negative confirmation issued within 48 hours from the date of departure.
