FRVs are a hindrance to the Mangalam fire brigade

Kochi: The failure of the Fire Responder Vehicle (FRV) of the Fire and Rescue Service is a setback for the police. 50 vehicles were purchased in two phases. All 25 vehicles purchased in the first phase are now unusable. The 25 purchased after this were unveiled by the Chief Minister on November 21, 2021. Six of them are already in Kattappuram. These vehicles are parked at an agent’s yard in Aluva. FRV There are allegations of massive corruption behind the purchase.

It is specially equipped with 400 liters of water, 50 liters of foam, a water mist pump, a hydraulic breaker and a chainsaw. These were made part of the force with the aim of speeding through the narrow passage where large fire engines cannot go to extinguish the fire. The special body of the FRV was on the Yodhya Tata vehicle.

Water mist in FRV will cost around 10 lakh rupees. The main problem now is that this system, which uses German technology, is being damaged. There is no maintenance system in Kerala.

Crores were spent on water mist pumps alone. A mechanic was sent from Bengaluru and repaired at a cost of Rs 25,000 each, but it broke down again.
