Fujifilm Introduces the FUJIFILM GFX100 II: A High-Speed Image Processing Camera with New GF Lens Line

Fujifilm recently unveiled its latest camera, the FUJIFILM GFX100 II, which boasts a high-speed image processing unit. The camera was introduced by Fujifilm (Thailand) Company Limited on September 13, 2023, along with several interchangeable lenses designed specifically for the GFX series. These lenses include the FUJINON GF30mmF5.6 T/S lens, the FUJINON GF110mmF5.6 T/S Macro lens, and the FUJINON GF55mmF1.7 R WR lens.

The introduction of these new lenses, in combination with the large GFX100 II sensor, elevates the level of image quality. The GFX100 II camera features an extra-large sensor that is about 1.7 times larger than a 35mm full-frame sensor, resulting in stunning tones and realistic details. It is equipped with the newly developed “GFX 102MP CMOS II HS” sensor, boasting an impressive resolution of 102 megapixels. Paired with the high-speed image processing unit “X-Processor 5,” this camera allows for efficient continuous shooting and increased video capabilities.

The advanced image sensor and processing system enable the camera to support object detection powered by AI AF, developed using Deep Learning technology, and a new AF algorithm. These technological advancements enhance the autofocus capabilities and allow for accurate tracking of various subjects, be it animals, cars, or more. With a notable improvement in continuous shooting, the camera now offers a speed of 8.0 frames per second, expanding its usability for different photography styles such as fashion, advertising, landscapes, sports, and news reporting.

Furthermore, this latest camera body includes video recording capabilities, providing the ability to record 4K/60P 4:2:2 10-bit video. For the first time in the GFX series, it also supports 8K/30P video recording. A new “Video Format” camera menu adjusts the video format based on the attached lens, optimizing video recording settings such as for Premista 35mm and Anamorphic (35mm).

The Fujifilm GFX100 II also introduces a new Film Simulation mode called “REALA ACE,” enhancing the visual effect with realistic, natural colors and low contrast tones. This mode proves beneficial for shooting various subjects and situations. In terms of design, the camera features a large rotatable LCD display and a new camera surface provided by BISHAMON, ensuring a luxurious and comfortable user experience, specifically tailored to meet the needs of professional photographers and videographers.

In addition to the camera, Fujifilm has launched a new line of lenses, expanding the GFX system and improving photographic performance. The FUJINON GF55mmF1.7 R WR lens, a standard wide aperture prime lens, offers versatility and a focal length of 55mm (equivalent to 44mm in 35mm format). This lens delivers smooth bokeh, creating a pleasing blurred background effect. It is designed to replicate the perspective of the human eye, resulting in natural-looking images. The lens incorporates 14 lens elements in 10 groups, including two ED lens elements and two aspherical lens elements, effectively reducing chromatic aberration and spherical distortion.

Additionally, the GF lens line introduces two tilt-shift lenses: the FUJINON GF30mmF5.6 T/S lens and the FUJINON GF110mmF5.6 T/S Macro lens. The GF30mmF5.6 T/S is a wide-angle tilt-shift lens with a focal length equivalent to 24mm in 35mm film format. It features an exceptional optical design, with 16 lens elements in 11 groups, including three aspherical lens elements, two ED lens elements, and one Super ED lens element to minimize distortion and ghosting. This lens delivers remarkable image resolution, catering to the needs of landscape photography professionals. Compact in size, it measures 138.5 mm in length and weighs only 1,340 grams.

On the other hand, the GF110mmF5.6 T/S Macro lens is a mid-range tilt-shift telephoto macro lens with a focal length equivalent to 87mm in 35mm format. It offers a zoom ratio of up to 0.5 times and includes 11 lens elements in 9 groups, featuring an aspherical element and two ED lens elements. This lens ensures exceptional clarity by minimizing various types of aberrations such as proportional aberration, chromatic aberration, and axial aberration. Despite its powerful capabilities, the lens remains compact at 149 mm in length and weighs 1,255 grams (with a 72 mm filter).

Fujifilm Thailand has scheduled an official launch and showcase event for the GFX100 II camera and the new lens line on September 28, 2023.
