(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Jo Seong-heum = Samsung Electronics[005930]The expectation that Samsung will keep the price of the Galaxy S22, which is scheduled to be unveiled next month, at the same level as its predecessor, is gaining strength. In this case, there is a reaction that it will be a ‘win-win’ that breaks the expectations of the price increase so far.

According to foreign news outlets specializing in information and communication technology (ICT) and the mobile industry on the 29th, it is predicted that Samsung Electronics will set the factory price of the Galaxy S22 series at a similar level to that of its predecessor, the Galaxy S21 series.

The Galaxy S21 series, released at the end of January last year, was priced at 999,900 won for the basic model, the Galaxy S21, 1,199,000 won for the Galaxy S21+, and 1,452,000 won for the Galaxy S21 Ultra and 1,599,000 won for each specification.

It is speculated that the European price of the Galaxy S22 will be 849 to 1449 euros (about 1.15 million to 1.95 million won) like its predecessor.

However, in the case of the Galaxy S22 Ultra, there is also a theory that the RAM capacity of the basic model will be 8GB, which is slightly reduced compared to the previous model (12GB).

If Samsung Electronics sets the price according to this observation, it is expected to be evaluated as a fairly aggressive pricing policy given the circumstances.

Until the end of last year, speculation prevailed until the end of last year that Samsung Electronics would raise the price of the new Galaxy S22 series in 2022 due to factors such as the global semiconductor crisis, supply chain disruption, and inflation. It was predicted that an increase of around $100 (about 120,000 won) would be inevitable compared to the previous work.

In the industry, Samsung Electronics maintained its No. 1 position in the global smartphone market last year, but growth has stagnated, and competitors Apple and Chinese companies are rapidly growing, so this year is expected to be a major turning point for the business in the future.

In a sluggish situation, with sales of the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S21 series being less than 30 million units in the first year of release, Samsung Electronics believes that the success or failure of the Galaxy S22 is important in maintaining market leadership.

Samsung Electronics is planning to hold an online Unpacked event at 00:00 Korean time on February 10 and unveil the new Galaxy S series. Samsung Electronics predicted that this series will not only expand the limits of smart devices, but also set the standard for next-generation mobile experiences.
