George Russell of Mercedes F1 finished fifth in the 2022 F1 Round 2 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix final.
The Mercedes F1’s struggle continues, and the W13 has been unable to focus on performance as it spends time resolving popping. Still, George Russell fought a solid race and brought points back to the team.
“It was a fierce race in terms of maximizing the potential points of today,” said George Russell.
“The car looked good, but we don’t have enough downforce because we can’t get the car close to the ground. We were able to put the car in a comfortable window and pushed it as hard as possible. But at the limit of 50 laps on a high speed street circuit, it may have been the most physical race I’ve experienced in F1. “
“I want to fight for victory. Everyone is working hard to close the gap between Red Bull and Ferrari, and everyone at Blackley and Brixworth wants better results. We will continue to push until the gap is filled. “
“This first part of the season, but the races aren’t crowded and the calendars aren’t very crowded, so we have time to find a solution.”
“I’m not here to fight for P5, but I need to look at the positive side.”
“The race was fun to drive. This track is probably in the top five of the season. It’s incredibly fast and has great grip.”
