Gerard sacked EPL Aston Villa, Emery appointed new manager

Aston Villa of the English Premier League (EPL), who broke up with manager Steven Gerrard (England) after 11 months due to poor performance, have hired manager Unai Emery (Spain), who previously led Villarreal in La Spanish Liga.

Aston Villa announced on the 25th (Korea time) that Emery had been appointed as the new manager through official channels such as the club’s website.

The club added that Emery will finish the work permit process and lead the team from the 1st of next month.

This marks Emery’s first return to the Premier League in around three years since he was sacked from Arsenal in November 2019.

Emery is a leader who has been active in Valencia and Seville, Spain, and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in France.

In Sevilla, from the 2013-2014 season, they achieved three consecutive victories in the UEFA Europa League, and in the 2017-2018 season, PSG topped the regular Ligue 1 league, the French Cup, and the League Cup.

In May 2018, Arsenal took over as the successor of former coach Arsene Wenger, but he had to resign after a year and a half due to poor performance. He became a coach who won a championship.

Aston Villa, who sacked Gerard on the 21st after only 2 wins, 3 draws and 6 losses (9 points) in 11 league games this season, chose Emery, who has experience in various competitions, as the leader of the rebound.

In the match against Brentford on the 23rd, played by coach Aaron Danks on behalf of Coach Aaron Danks, Aston Villa won 4-0 recording 3 wins, 3 draws and 6 losses (12 points) in 12 games, by placing their name in 15th place in the EPL.

Emery had a contract with Villarreal until next summer, but the BBC reported that Aston Villa paid Villarreal £5.2m for a buyout.
