On September 29, local time, German Chancellor Merkel congratulated the SPD candidate for Chancellor Schultz on his victory in the election. At the same time, the prospects for negotiations on the formation of the cabinet of the various parties in Germany are still full of uncertainties. The Green Party and the Liberal Democratic Party held their first exploratory talks on the 29th, but did not announce specific results. A spokesperson for the Green Party called this a “confidential conversation in a neutral location.” The Green Party and the Liberal Democratic Party hope to reach a consensus with each other before negotiating with the Social Democratic Party or the Coalition Party.

Muzenitz, chairman of the Social Democratic Party’s parliamentary caucus, took a positive attitude towards the negotiations between the Green Party and the Liberal Democratic Party. He believes that after the collapse of the cabinet formation negotiations in 2017, it is a good thing for the leaders of the Green Party and the Liberal Democratic Party to have a dialogue, because the partners in the joint cabinet formation require mutual trust. In addition, he also called on the two parties to start negotiations with the Social Democratic Party as soon as possible, and hoped that the two parties could “accept the proposal and explore and negotiate the establishment of a cabinet alliance as soon as possible.”

According to the Liberal Democratic Party Secretary-General Wishin, the Liberal Democratic Party will conduct a wider range of negotiations with the Green Party on October 1 and deepen the exploration content, and will conduct preliminary negotiations with the Coalition Party and the Social Democratic Party over the weekend. Weixin also said: “Co-organizing a cabinet with the Coalition Party is still a priority for the Liberal Democratic Party.” (Republic of China reporter Ruan Jiawen)
