[ベルリン 24日 ロイター] – German Chancellor Scholz has decided to provide German Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine, and to allow supplies from other countries such as Poland. A person familiar with the matter told Reuters.
Germany’s Der Spiegel reports that Germany’s supply involves at least one Leopard 2 tank, and that other allies, including Nordic countries, plan to cooperate with Germany in supplying Ukraine with Leopard 2 tanks.
A German government spokesman declined to comment, and the German Ministry of Defense could not be reached for comment.
A senior US government official said on Thursday that the US government appears to be withdrawing its opposition to the sale of the Abrams main battle tank to Ukraine, which could be announced as early as this week.
Andriy Yermak, an aide to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, said the delivery of German tanks was necessary to restore Ukraine’s borders and was a powerful blow to democracy.
