Gigabyte X570S Aorus Master, Perfect Motherboard for Ryzen 9 Processor – JC Hyun > Review

For those who need a processor that requires 8 cores and 16 threads or more, the Ryzen 9 processor is the only option at this time. Of course, there is Intel’s Core X series processor, but since it is an older model, most people choose Ryzen 9 processors only after there are no special circumstances. For AMD Ryzen 9 series processors, the Ryzen 9 5900X processor with 12 cores and 24 threads is priced at 600,000 won, and the Ryzen 9 5950X processor with 16 cores and 32 threads is sold at 900,000 won. Considering that the Ryzen 7 5800X processor is being sold in the mid 400,000 won range, the price per core / processor can be seen to be sold at a fairly reasonable level.

So, in order to purchase and use the Ryzen 9 series processor, ATX standard B550 chipset motherboard is sometimes selected to configure a slightly more cost-effective computer, but in this motherboard, only one PCIe 4.0 SSD storage can be installed. And one of the reasons for choosing the B550 chipset motherboard is that the Ryzen 9 processor is structurally not well overclocking, so you don’t need an expensive motherboard to get a little higher performance. However, among the expensive B550 chipset-based mainboards, the main boards with a large number of phase configurations, especially the DR.MOS-based power supply, do not show much difference in price compared to the X570 chipset-based mainboard.

However, in order to extract the extra processor performance through the performance of the Ryzen 9 processor, especially the PBO, it is essential to use an AIO cooler with more than three rows, along with a generous power supply configuration and a thermal design part that composes the power supply. So, today, I would like to introduce GIGABYTE X570S AORUS Master, a motherboard based on GIGABYTE’s 2nd generation X570 chipset for Ryzen 9 processor users. Let’s take a look at the features and advantages of this motherboard.

GIGABYTE X570S AORUS MASTER – JCHYUN

Gigabyte’s high-end, that is, the highest-end motherboard, most of the devices that are basically used in the main board are used with the highest quality. In particular, in the case of the memory slot, a steel memory bank is used rather than a simple plastic material, and this configuration is advantageous for using high-clock gaming memory with XMP because it prevents noise caused by a little electrical signal as well as durability. This motherboard can use up to DDR4-5400, and a maximum of 32GB module can be installed in one slot, so it can be expanded up to 128GB in a dual-channel configuration.

Next to the standard 24-pin power connector connected to the motherboard, three 4-pin headers for mounting a system fan and a USB Type-C supporting USB 3.2 Gen2 for connecting with the USB Type-C cable that is supported by default in the recent 100,000 won case Supports pin headers. Since this port has no direction, it can be easily inserted and connected to a cable.

There is no need for a separate power button when using the computer by attaching it to the system case, but if there is a power button that can quickly check whether the system is booting or not, it is often useful unexpectedly. In addition, there are hardware reset buttons and CMOS clear pin headers. And in the case of the power button, a red LED is applied inside, so you can feel a little custom LED effect.

This year, one of the functions that expensive motherboards are applying to is the hardware check LED. The function of this LED is to check whether there are any abnormalities in key components (ie, expensive components) when the computer is booting up. When done, the red LED lights up.

RGB LED peripherals can now be found in a lot of products that are basically applied to system cases and AIO water coolers. When using these peripherals, a pair of 4-pin RGB pin headers or 3-pin ARGB pin headers are provided on the motherboard for up to 4 RGB LEDs. Peripheral devices can be connected.

Up to 6 SATA3-based hard disks and SSDs that can be connected to the motherboard can be installed. The form connected to the SATA3 cable is a horizontal type and minimizes interference with the graphic card using a large heat sink.

Currently, all Ryzen processor motherboards are the same with AM4 + socket, and on this motherboard, 14+2 digital VRM power supply is mounted around the processor socket. etc were used. It is a direct VRM standard that Gigabyte has refined over several generations, and in terms of power supply, it is at a higher level than the products of other mainboard competitors. And as a finishing touch, a pin-arrayed Gigabyte Direct Touch 2 cooling heat sink and heat pipe were used to quickly cool the heat of the power supply. It is possible and the price is also expensive.

The thermal plate, designed to fully cover the PCIe slot for mounting the graphics card, has been newly created to improve design, efficiency and thermal conductivity compared to the previous generation X570 Master. In particular, the M.2 heatsink, which connects to the processor’s socket and graphics card, to the processor’s PCIe 4.0 lane, is made a little aerodynamic.

■ Thermal design that maximizes air flow

First of all, most SSDs of the M.2 2280 standard limit the maximum speed by throttling when the temperature is maintained between 70 and 80 degrees. Therefore, it is essential to use a basic passive aluminum heat sink to minimize the temperature reaching this throttling, and for this, a more efficient heat sink design is essential. This Gigabyte X570S Aorus Master motherboard has been improved to help more efficient heat dissipation by doubling the area in contact with air by designing the first M.2 2280 heatsink as a two-layer structure.

In addition, high-quality thermal pads are basically installed on both sides, including the bottom side with other motherboard manufacturers, so that they adhere to both sides of the M.2 2280 SSD to maintain higher thermal conductivity.

A separate steel back-plate is also applied to the bottom surface of the motherboard to prevent short circuits caused by contact with abnormal substances on the bottom surface of the motherboard and to protect the failure as much as possible. Of course, the stylish design is a bonus.

The IO shield configuration is made with my favorite legacy-free design, but in fact, recently unused PS2 ports have been completely deleted, and 4 USB 2.0 ports have been placed in that area. The total number of USB ports is 12, and one of them supports a USB 3.2 Type-C port. The new iPad or Galaxy Pad recently released with a USB Type-C port can be connected, synced, and charged quickly and easily.

■ GIGABYTE X570S AORUS MASTER BIOS VIEW

The BIOS configuration of this motherboard was very similar to that of other Gigabyte motherboards I’ve seen so far. BIOS configuration can be divided into two types, easy mode and advanced mode.

▲ Main screen of Easy Mode and Advanced Mode – Currently, the latest BIOS of this motherboard is F3b as of September.

SVM, a virtualization mode where you can install mobile games and enjoy games, is disabled, and CSM mode for Windows booting of old legacy disks is enabled. If you want to install Windows 10 anew, it is recommended to install Windows 10 with SVM enabled and CRM disabled.

The perfect motherboard for the Ryzen 9 processor, the Gigabyte X570S Aorus Master.

To configure a system based on AMD Ryzen 9 processor, to have a high cost-performance ratio, ATX standard B550 chipset motherboards are often purchased. In particular, those who purchase the Ryzen 7 5800X processor have a higher preference for the B550 chipset. In fact, strictly speaking, the difference in specifications between the X570 chipset and the B550 chipset is not really large.

However, the X570S Aorus Master motherboard introduced through today’s article is completely different from the X570 chipset-based motherboards of Gigabyte or other motherboard manufacturers. The reason is that up to four NVMe Gen4 x4 SSDs can be installed on this motherboard. The specification difference in this part is strictly differentiated from the B550 chipset-based motherboard. That is, the maximum speed of the NVMe SSD connected to the PCIe lane in the B550 chipset is Gen3 x4 or Gen3 x2. In this X570 motherboard, all PCIe lanes of the chipset operate as Gen4, so if you purchase all the 4TB models currently available, you can configure up to 16TB of storage.

In order to maximize the multi-core performance of the Ryzen 9 5900X and Ryzen 9 5950X processors, it is better to use them in an environment that can process many things at the same time. Therefore, it is advantageous for those who need to simultaneously transmit gaming and broadcasting with one computer, or to edit and transcode various video source files (converting files such as MP4, AVI, X.256, 4K, etc.). In order to maximize the performance of the Ryzen 9 processor and save even a little time with faster file I/O speed, it is of course recommended to use NVMe Gen4 x4 supported storage with fast continuous read and write performance. So, for those who want to purchase and use this motherboard, it is the best choice for those who have two computers in one.
