Sharjah: Natives want to marry foreigners. In the last 12 years, 73 per cent of the 7,774 step-marriages involved a foreigner. The ministry has released details of weddings held in the emirates of Sharjah, Ajman, Umm al-Khuwain and Fujairah.
Emirati youth are at the forefront of foreign marriages. 1639 Emirati women and 4497 men found a foreign partner. Sharjah had the highest number of marriages with 3968 marriages. In 3073 of these marriages, the bride is a foreigner. Groom in 895 weddings. Ajman is second.
2589 marriages were cross-border. 787 marriages in Fujairah and 430 marriages in Umm al-Khuwain ‘crossed the line’ Marriage contracts will be certified in 11 courts in 4 emirates. Couples and relatives are not required to attend the courts for matrimonial proceedings.
Both parties can attend the online wedding ceremony at the designated place at the same time in the presence of the court representative. The Ministry of Justice has simplified the marriage rules.
