Kochi: Hibi Eden MP said that Shabin was a DYFI activist who was found by the customs to be involved in a gold smuggling case. Thrikkakara Municipal Corporation Vice Chairman and Muslim League leader AA Shabin is the son of Ibrahim Kutty. Ibrahimkutty was summoned by customs today and questioned over the incident. This was followed by Hibi Eden’s response that Shabin was a DYFI activist.
Hibi Eden said in a press conference in Kochi that there is no need for Ibrahimkutty to resign as the Vice Chairman of Thrikkakara Municipal Corporation. Customs alleges that Ibrahim Kutty’s son Shabin and filmmaker KP Sirajuddin hid the gold in a butcher’s machine. Both are in hiding. It is learned that Sirajuddin has entered Dubai.
‘There should be punitive action against those who commit such crimes. If the company of the son of a people’s representative is also involved in this, a detailed investigation should be carried out. If he is the culprit then of course action must be taken. The Congress does not want to protect the perpetrators, “said Hibi Eden.
‘The above person has a prehistoric history. It is related to DYFI. That too should be investigated. He should also look into the contract transactions he has undertaken in connection with the previous governing body. It should also be investigated whether it includes money from gold smuggling. “Besides, we want to see if there are any terrorism cases related to it,” he said.
The gold was smuggled on a cargo flight from Dubai to Nedumbassery last Saturday night. Two and a half kilos of gold nuggets were hidden inside the butcher machine. Nakul, the driver of the vehicle that came to collect the parcel, was interrogated by customs.
